Singapore Airlines Medium-Haul Business Class

Singapore Airlines launched a Medium-Haul Business Class product for regional routes initally to Australia and Japan on their new Airbus A330-300 and selected Boeing 777-300 aircraft. The cities to be served include: Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Nagoya and Osaka.

19 of the Airbus A330-300 aircraft have been placed on order, the first service with this new type of aircraft for the airline was on 30 March 2009 between Singapore and Brisbane.

The new seat will replace the old style ‘cradle-seat’, enabling passengers to have a product which is comparable to other carriers and still have a lie flat product which previously was a let down if you had just stepped off the A380 to connect to your final destination.

The seat layout is in a 2-2-2 configuration, comprises of premium leather and is ergonomically designed. It is a lie-flat seat, enabling passengers to get a comfortable sleep, though not a full flat bed (it has an incline of 8 degrees).

A seat control panel allows passengers to select their seat position preferences, the adjustable headrest and lumbar support means greater comfort. There is a privacy screen between the seats and the way the seat is designed into a hard shell also enhances privacy.

The new Business Class product on the A330s is geared toward the needs of travellers on regional and medium haul routes, complementing the award-winning and highly popular long-haul Business Class seat, fitted on the Singapore Airlines A380, A340-500 and B777-300ER fleets.

The new seat will also be progressively retrofitted onto other existing medium-haul aircraft, as part of the Airline’s ongoing product enhancement efforts.
